Strike/Slip - A Coffee Table Inspired by California Earthquakes and Wood Movement

May 13, 2016

Inspired by strike slip earthquakes and wood movement, the Strike/Slip Coffee Table features a multi layered, "ruptured" surface with two independently supported halves.  This allows the table to be slid along itself or even separated, when the occasion demands, into two separate tables.

The top rests upon two reclaimed Douglas Fir beams that were blackened with a torch, enhancing the texture of the grain and allowing the top to take precedence.  To stabilize the cracks, corsets were inlaid.
